At last! Bicycle Times Magazine Issue #31 is here… or almost here, meaning “to be found on the magazine rack at your local Barnes & Noble sometime this week.” Look closely at the cover and notice the feature called “Touring With Adult Children – 275 Miles of Fun on the Great Allegheny Passage.”
TA DA! That’s my feature article about my family’s 5-day bike ride last summer from Connellsville, Pennsylvania to Washington DC. The title, “Blessed Be Bag Balm,” should give you a big hint as to the significant theme of this piece. It was tremendously fun to write and will probably cause delightful public embarrassment to me, my husband, son, stepson and stepdaughter, who survived that ride with the help of that magical elixir that comes in a little green tin. So critical was this tin to the daily survival of our rear ends that when we reached the end of the C&O Canal in Georgetown, our blessed Bag Balm even posed for a picture on top of the zero mile marker.
Now let me tell you what it’s like to be published in Bicycle Times Magazine. Oh my gosh! The cyclists who write and contribute to this magazine are the gnarliest, most independent, adventurous free spirits I could imagine. Look at them! They do things like bike across foreign lands and even get kidnapped with their folding bikes in Bangkok. And I bet every one of them would call me “dude.”
This is awesome. For a middle-aged mom with single piercings in each earlobe and no tattoos, I feel like I get to play with the cool kids!
Bicycle Times Magazine Issue #31! Don’t miss it!
