Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum

Pirate Rum

If all has gone well in the last week and a half, and my husband and I didn’t miss a flight, miss the ship, or otherwise decide to snorkel, drink Caribe beer, or eat rumcake for longer than we intended,  then we are still cruising the Caribbean today!

In a few days, we’ll be back home, hopefully warmed by the equatorial sun and the memories of a fabulous adventure. However, as I write this, we are still a few days away from our departure, so in anticipation of our trip, I want to share the 5 things I am most looking forward to.

1.   Seeing places I’ve never been before.

Cartegena, Colombia… Costa Rica…the Panama Canal.  THE PANAMA CANAL! And in Belize, I am really looking forward to an excursion called Butts Up Cave Tubing. I think my backside was made for that.

2.  Browsing the ship’s library

For me, there is nothing more energizing, yet comforting, than being surrounded by books.  Of course, I love my Kindle and wouldn’t travel without it, but I love libraries. I will always love the touch, feel and smell of  books and I hope to spend an afternoon at sea studying the titles, authors and book covers of every single book in the library. And when I carry a small stack to my stateroom to read during the cruise, I will feel like I hit the jackpot without even going to the casino.

3.  The ocean

Maybe it freaks out some people, who get nervous being surrounded by ocean on all sides, but I love the scent, sight and feel of the ocean. Although the weather reports and meteorological data show we might get some rain during our cruise, I’m still game to make the best of every day.

4.  Making new friends

I love meeting new people. I still keep in touch with friends I met on cruises (thank you Facebook!) I would go out of my way to visit these people on or off a ship. Wonderful people make for wonderful cruises, and I look forward to meeting new friends.

5.  Warmth

I live in Pennsylvania. It was 14 degrees last week. Need I say more?
